Bekum upholds the highest standards in occupational health and safety – worldwide. Our processes and production sites not only comply with legal regulations, but also follow our own commitment to a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
Our Principles for Working Safely:
- Healthy Work Environment: We create safe, ergonomic, and health-promoting workplaces – both physically and mentally.
- Mandatory Safety Measures: Personal protective equipment, clear safety guidelines, and regular training sessions are non-negotiable.
- Zero Tolerance for Alcohol and Substance Use: The consumption and possession of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited across the entire site – random checks may be conducted.
- Order & Cleanliness: A tidy workspace is a safe workspace – everyone is responsible for maintaining it.
- Safe Operation of Machinery & Equipment: Only trained personnel are permitted to operate cranes, forklifts, or hoisting devices – visual inspections are mandatory.
- Hazardous Materials & Special Zones: Handling dangerous substances and working in explosive or electrically live areas is only permitted under strict safety protocols.
- Ergonomics & Prevention: We design our workplaces to be human-centered and promote long-term health through preventive measures.
- Ex Zones & Ignition Sources: In potentially explosive areas, open flames, hot surfaces, and non-ATEX-certified devices are strictly prohibited. Work in Ex zones requires prior approval.
- Maintenance & Electrical Safety: Equipment must be fully powered down and secured against reactivation before any maintenance begins. Only qualified personnel may address electrical faults.
- Deficiency Management: Any safety-relevant defects in equipment, systems, or tools must be reported immediately – damaged equipment must not be used.
- Safety Officers & First aiders: Safety professionals, first aiders, and designated personnel actively support accident prevention and emergency preparedness.
- Emergency Management: Escape routes, emergency plans, and first aid supplies are regularly inspected. Evacuation drills and safety training are integral parts of our safety strategy.
- Fire Protection: Fire extinguishing systems are routinely checked. In the event of a fire, clear procedures are in place – from raising the alarm to safe evacuation.
- Hazardous Substances: The handling of hazardous materials is strictly governed by safety protocols and labeling requirements. We comply with the Chemicals Act, the Hazardous Substances Ordinance, and applicable technical regulations for operational safety and accident prevention. Hazardous materials are stored only in suitable, labeled containers – safe, accessible, and fully compliant with legal requirements. Their handling is clearly defined – from procurement and storage to disposal.
Our policies are continuously updated to reflect new legal requirements. Employees receive regular training on the safe handling of hazardous materials.
Bekum is committed to upholding fundamental human rights and expects the same from its partners. This includes, in particular, ensuring that our suppliers respect and protect their employees’ right to freedom of expression, personal rights, and privacy.
We are dedicated to fostering a work environment defined by respect, transparency, and trust – regardless of background, beliefs, or personal opinions. Discrimination, surveillance without a legal basis, or intrusions into personal space will not be tolerated.
Bekum expects its suppliers to fully comply with all applicable national regulations regarding occupational health and safety, and to ensure humane and safe working conditions.
To protect health and prevent workplace accidents, suppliers should establish and implement a systematic occupational safety management system – for example, in alignment with the international standard ISO 45001.
While ISO 45001 certification is expressly encouraged, it is not a mandatory requirement.
Through these measures, our suppliers contribute to creating a safe and responsible work environment – in line with Bekum’s values and expectations.
A key element of our sustainable corporate governance is providing a safe, open, and responsible way to report potential misconduct. Our Whistleblowing Policy ensures transparency while protecting the interests of all parties involved.

No Anonymity, But Full Discretion: While anonymous reports are not accepted to allow for follow-up questions, the confidentiality of the whistleblower’s identity is strictly maintained.
